Frequently asked questions

Whatever the discipline, choosing a Master’s Degree means choosing a specialisation correlating with a professional project and a profession that you would like to practise afterwards. A diploma is not a goal but a means to reach your goal. Ask yourself the following questions:

  • What is the Master programme’s content and organisation of courses, mobility and internships opportunities, etc.?
  • What are the learning outcomes for the programme?
  • Does this programme have partnerships with companies?
  • Are internships included in the training?
  • What is the average time to get hired after graduation?
  • Is it possible to continue studying for a doctor’s degree at the University of Luxembourg?

All applications must be made through an online application procedure. It is not possible to submit the application on paper. Before filling out the online application form, you must first choose the study programme and find out about the course and prerequisites.

Steps for applying:

  1. Complete and submit the online admission application form.
  2. Pay the administration fee if requested (€50 per application).
  3. Create a provisional account after receiving the automatic email.
  4. Download the list of required documents for the chosen study programme.
  5. Submit the online application.

Master programmes usually last 2 years (equivalent to 4 semesters).

The University also offers some Master’s Degrees of 1 year (2 semesters).

Admission to a Master’s programme is based on the evaluation of a selection committee.

The selection criteria for each study programme are detailed on the relevant programme website.

In the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine as well as in the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance, Master programmes are generally taught in English. Some are bilingual in French/English.

In the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, most of the Master’s programmes are bilingual or trilingual. You can find more information about this on our website.

The University of Luxembourg requires all candidates to provide proof of language proficiency in the teaching language(s) of the chosen programme. The language skills required for each programme are listed on the dedicated programme web page according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Proof of language proficiency can be provided by some documents or tests.

Your application must include the following documents:

  • Passport photo
  • Copy of identity card or passport
  • Copy of proof of health insurance
  • Copy of the university degree (compulsory when applying as a third-country national candidate)
  • Copy of the sworn translation of the university diploma if it is written in a language other than French, German or English
  • Copy of transcripts available at the time of your application
  • Certified copy of the recognition of your diploma (this must be done for applicants from third countries as soon as they obtain their residence permit; European applicants who have obtained a Bachelor’s degree in a European university are exempted).
  • Letter of motivation
  • Detailed curriculum vitae
  • Copy of recognised language certificate for each of the teaching languages of the chosen programme.

Each study programme may also request other specific documents: detailed description of previous courses, completion of additional forms, proof of internships, letters of recommendation, and other documents.

In all cases, the admission of any applicant depends on their particular situation. The prerequisites may be different depending on the applicant’s nationality, the origin of their degree and their residence.

The University of Luxembourg has over 1,000 units in total, spread essentially throughout the south of the country.
